Delegate applications for the 5th Annual Network of Empowered Women 2017 Conference are open!

Applications close October 31st, 2016 @ Midnight.

$475/Delegate*

Delegate fees include all food and accommodation expenses at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and round trip coach transportation from Edmonton to Lake Louise and back.

Q: Am I required to be a University of Alberta student in order to apply for the Conference?  

A: No, NEW prides itself in being a national conference, and welcomes undergraduate students from any post-secondary institution in Canada. Delegates have joined us from MacEwan University, University of British Columbia Okanagan, Ryerson University, Simon Fraser University, University of Western Ontario, and more.

External delegates from outside of Edmonton have the option of meeting us in Edmonton or Calgary. Delegates flying in to Edmonton will need to fly in the night of Wednesday, February 1st at the latest (billeting options available). You will depart with other delegates the morning of Thursday, February 2nd from the University of Alberta.

Delegates flying into Calgary will be picked up from the Calgary International Airport by the coach while en route to Lake Louise the morning of Thursday, February 2nd.  

Flight discount codes will be provided to external delegates, if needed.

 

Q: Do you have to be an undergraduate student to apply for the Conference?

A: Yes, as of right now, NEW is only open to undergraduate students from any post-secondary institution across Canada.

 

Q: Do you have to be a Business student to apply for the Conference?

A: No. Although NEW is a business faculty based student group, we do welcome undergraduate students from any faculty/discipline to apply.

 

Q: What does the delegate fee cover?

A: Our $475.00 delegate fee includes all food and accommodation expenses (4 days, 3 nights) at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Banff National Park, and round trip transportation from Edmonton to Lake Louise and back. (*Note: airfare is not included for external delegates, but flight discount codes will be provided.)

 

 

Q: How are delegates selected to attend the Conference?

A: Individuals must complete an online application which requires them to answer a number of questions. (Applications will be released in September). Our Public Relations team along with our Co-Chairs select delegates by reviewing answers to these application questions. Name, gender, school, and major are not taken into account when selecting delegates. One hundred delegates will be chosen to attend the NEW 2017 Conference.

 

Q: If I am waitlisted, when will I find out if I get a spot?

A: An email will be sent to the next applicant on the waitlist when a spot becomes available. Initial offers must be accepted and paid for by December 1st, so the latest time a waitlisted applicant would be offered a spot to attend would be shortly thereafter.

 

Q: Is the Conference only for female delegates?

A: No, we encourage male applicants to apply to attend our 2017 Conference as well. NEW is founded on the principles of awareness, connections, inspiration, and ultimately empowerment, with the aim to not only empower females to pursue any future path they choose, but to empower all individuals, regardless of gender, to support this pursuit. All individuals can take the lessons learned and connections made at the Conference and apply them to both their personal and professional lives.

 

Q: What if I don’t know anyone attending the Conference?

A: Over the four day conference, there will be numerous opportunities to meet fellow delegates, corporate representatives, and speakers. From the interactive breakout sessions, to our themed hospitality suites, to the daily meals, you will be meeting and interacting with some remarkable individuals. One of the most valuable aspects of the Conference is the connections you will cultivate during the four days that will carry on even after the Conference comes to an end.  

 

Q: What if I can’t find anything to wear to the theme nights?

A: Dressing to theme at our theme nights is completely optional. If you are unable to find an outfit, please do not stress trying to find one. That said, if you own an outfit that fits the theme, we would love to see you show up dressed to impress! If you are struggling to find apparel and would like to dress to theme, please email uofanew@ualberta.ca and we will respond with some suggestions on which retailers have outfits in line with the theme. In the welcome package that you will receive once admitted to the Conference, there will also be a “Style Guide” to give you some inspiration on what to wear!

 

Q: I love NEW! How can I get more involved?

A: If you are a University of Alberta student, we have two info sessions, on September 14th and October 19th (location TBA), as well as a Pre-Conference event held on October 11th. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for more updates.

 

If you are not a University of Alberta student, every year after the NEW Conference, we invite past delegates to become External Ambassadors for NEW in the upcoming year. Watch for the email with the application process the following Summer after the Conference.
