Julia Choluj

Co-Chair |


Julia Choluj is a fourth year Marketing and Human Resources major that has been working in the Ministry of International and Intergovernmental Relations for the GoA over the past eight months on a co-op work term. This is Julia’s second year on the Network of Empowered Women (NEW) executive team, having been the Director of Hotel and Transportation for the inaugural conference. Julia has a love for social enterprise and not for profit work. Over the past four years Julia has co organized an annual  fundraiser for the Canadian Water Works foundation (CWW). In the summer of 2012 Julia took the initiative to travel to Asia for over three months along side the President and Founder of CWW to witness the construction and use of water filtration systems in India. She immediately bonded with many local Indian communities and found a passion for Kalanjiums, or female lead micro finance groups. Julia is also a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada and a ZUMBA instructor that loves to dance! Julia is excited and enthusiastic about the opportunities that NEW will bring to its network via its newsletter, various events this year and of course, the 2014 conference!


Julia Rudolf

Co-Chair |


Julia Rudolf is a fourth year accounting student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce, Co-operative Education degree. This is her second year on the NEW executive, having been VP Public Relations for the inaugural conference. She is thrilled to be back as a Co-Chair and is so excited for another fantastic conference! Julia has represented the Alberta School of Business in various case competitions over the past few years, including the Asian Business Case Competition in Singapore this past September where she and her team placed third. She is also part of the Not-for-Profit Business Strategy team for Alberta JDC West that competed in Regina in mid-January. Outside of school, she enjoys the outdoors, travelling, and doing pretty much anything in good company! Her next adventure will take place in Vienna, where she is heading in February for a semester studying abroad. Julia has a passion for communications, brand management, and public relations, and hopes to one day develop a career that allows her to bring her skills in these areas to the workplace. She thanks you for joining us for the NEW Business Conference and hopes you have a wonderful weekend!

Justine Snaychuk



Justine is thrilled to be the NEW VP Public Relations for 2013/2014. Her major is marketing and her minor is SMO. She is currently participating in an international exchange in Vienna, Austria and she is also a part of the Business Exchange Association at the University of Alberta. By the time she returns to Canada she will have visited 18 countries in Europe! Growing up, Justine was very involved in competitive ballroom and Latin dancing and continued to teach when she began university. It will always be a passion of hers and she hopes to one day compete again! Justine’s favorite book of all time is Harry Potter and as a child she used to go to Harry Potter summer camps! She recently toured the Warner Bros. set in London, England and nearly cried of excitement. Her professional and personal goals include having a family of her own, owning 2 dogs, and working for a non-for profit organization.

Olivia Kwok

PR Director |


Olivia is a third year accounting major and a business and economics law minor. After obtaining her bachelor of commerce degree, she aspires to obtain her CPA designation. Olivia has an ambitious and fun loving personality. She believes the most rewarding experiences come from pursuing challenging opportunities. This year, she is also the Operations Director of the Strategic Management and Organization Club. Olivia has really enjoyed meeting and working with people in her faculty this year and hopes that her university experience will continue to be as enjoyable as it is rewarding. She is really excited to be working with a group of fabulous people and getting involved in the School of Business! Olivia has a passion for learning about new cultures and languages while traveling. She participated in a French exchange program in Nova Scotia and has just completed a summer work term in Quebec City. Her hobbies include reading, playing badminton, watching TV and practicing calligraphy.

Carol Wong

Carol is in her third year of university and second year of business, with a major in Business Economics and Law and an unofficial double minor in Political Science and Human Resources Management. She is so honoured and so excited to be the director of design for the 2014 NEW conference!   Carol is also coincidentally one of two design directors for the Business Students’ Association, and in her spare time loves anything to do with graphic design, music (Carol holds an ARCT Teacher’s diploma for Piano Performance awarded by the Royal Conservatory with Honours with Distinction), food, and fashion. Being a part of the Network of Empowered Women means a lot to Carol, as her mother is her biggest role model and has taught her what it really takes to be a strong and empowered woman. Carol’s future aspirations include going to law school, owning a Pomeranian puppy, and writing a book–not necessarily in that order.

Amanda Beggs

VP Events |


Amanda is new to the University of Alberta, originally from Red Deer, and is in her third year of post-secondary. She is a Management and Organization major and an Accounting minor. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of NEW and to work with such an amazing team of women. Her goal as VP Events is to ensure that delegates challenge their point of view and make amazing memories. In her spare time Amanda enjoys baking, reading, board games, spending time with friends and family, yoga and getting outdoors! Her love of learning new things led her to take up lacrosse for the first time this year, and she has a passion for event planning and helping people. Her goals include eating macarons in France, learning to speak French, travelling, owning a social enterprise, and taking on whatever life throws at her.

Sarah Shelast

Events Director |


Sarah Shelast is in her fourth and final year of her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Finance and Marketing. This past semester Sarah had the opportunity to study abroad in Vienna, Austria; a life-changing experience she describes to be ‘challenging, exciting, and unforgettable’. In addition to her role as Events Director for NEW, Sarah also works for the Government of Alberta in the Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance. In her spare time she loves cooking, reading, and being active. Sarah has run in many half marathons and plays slo-pitch recreationally and competitively. Her future goals include: going to law school, running a full marathon, and watching the Oilers win the Stanley cup.

Joanne Lieu

Network Relations Director |


Joanne is in her fourth year of university, pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a major in Marketing and a minor in Business Economics and Law. She works as a Marketing Coordinator for a tech start-up, is the Founder of Project Empowerment, a member of the Fundraising Committee at the Edmonton Dream Center, and the Director of Network Relations for NEW. When she isn’t working or volunteering Joanne enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking, and travelling. Her short term goals include completing her Bachelor of Commerce and Cooperative Education Degree, expanding her fundraising project, and going to grad school. Her long term goals include travelling the world, owning a business, and becoming an advocate for women.


Jenna McLean

VP Logistics |


Jenna McLean is in her fourth year of university, pursuing her Bachelor of Commerce degree with a major in Accounting and a minor in Business Economics and Law.  She has completed her first Cooperative Education term with Ernst & Young, and aims to acquire her CPA designation following her graduation.  In January 2014 she will be embarking on exchange to Vienna, Austria for four months, and taking in the European culture for the remainder of the summer.  In her spare time she enjoys trying new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, travelling, and running through the river valley.  In the future Jenna hopes to travel the world while developing her career, and eventually settle down in a big city.

Kirsten Spak

Director of Logistics |


Kirsten Spak is a fourth year Bachelor of Commerce, Co-operative Education student with a major in Marketing and a minor in Business Economics and Law. In her free time she is a classically trained Cecchetti ballet and modern dancer, and loves camping, snowmobiling, and doing anything else with friends and family in the great outdoors. She has a passion for people, the arts, and making a difference. In addition to being the Director of Logistics for NEW, she is also a Program Development team member for Enactus, and loves taking on new challenges and opportunities. She is looking forward to studying abroad in Vienna next year, and hopes that her business career will take her on adventures all around the world!
